Early Education and Preparing
Breastfeeding is instinctive, but it is still a learned behavior. If breastfeeding is important to you, preparing in advance, discussing your plan and understanding the process of breastfeeding is paramount in creating a calm, relaxed and enjoyable breastfeeding experience.
Because Your Personal Breastfeeding Specialist knows that a good pregnancy and birth translates to a positive breastfeeding experience, she becomes a resources from you the moment you decide you’d like her support. She stays in touch with you throughout the end of your pregnancy to check-in on how you’re feeling and ensure you’re fully prepared for your breastfeeding experience.
At 37 weeks, she will do an 1.5-2 hour Preparing For Breastfeeding Class. This class is tailored to your specific family and needs. We will go over the following:

Reliable and Consistent Support
After baby arrives, it’s important to ensure they are latching correctly to ensure your milk comes in , your supply stays strong and your baby continues to meet their growth milestones.
Your Personal Breastfeeding Specialist will visit you early to ensure your baby has a good latch and is transferring milk well. After that inital visit, she will do a weekly in-home visit to:
Ensure your baby is transferring well by doing weighted feeds
Ensuring they get back to birth weight and continue to meet their growth milestones
Help you with any supply issues - oversupply can be just as difficult to manage as an undersupply
Help to introduce your baby’s first bottle in a paced feeding position to ensure baby doesn’t overfeed or create a preference for the bottle
Discuss how you are healing and feeling emotionally through this time
Help you to pump and ensure you’re sized correctly for your flange
When appropriate help your baby transition to less overnight feeds to get you some more rest
